IEM Cologne: Counter-Strike breaks every record on the board

Sat 28 Feb, 2026

IEM Cologne 2026 confirmed that CS2 is no longer just a game to watch: it’s the hub where audiences, sponsors, betting, and skins all meet. When a major CS event happens, it moves numbers few other titles can match, and its influence keeps growing.

Counter-Strike is back, and properly so. 2026 opened with it planted in the middle of the conversation again, and the comeback arrived as an event for the record books. IEM Cologne Major 2026. A peak of around 2.75 million viewers, enough on its own to make it the most watched CS Major ever staged. First place everywhere that matters, too: peak, average, hours watched. And then the one that really lands, the first Counter-Strike tournament of any kind to push past 100 million hours viewed. A number like that tells you something, not only about one event but about the direction the whole sector has taken these last few years. Team Falcons walked on stage and closed out a champion’s run. Most watched team of the month while they were at it.

None of it stays inside the tournament, though. It leaks straight into that old argument between FPS and MOBA over who holds the top of the viewership table. In the first half of 2026, Counter-Strike went past League of Legends as the most popular title for live viewership, and Cologne is the event that dragged it over the line. Then there’s a second front, and people miss it: prediction markets. In June alone, the esport shifted 231.8 million dollars in trades over on Kalshi, and 57% of that was CS2 by itself, most of it landing inside Cologne week. The market around CS2 keeps growing, and it has kept growing straight through a few rough patches.

The bigger shift is worth saying out loud. These past few years the esports market, CS2 leading from the front, has stopped merely fighting for eyeballs and started to change shape entirely. The money coming off it has set hard into something like infrastructure for the sector, and it is inching toward being an investment asset in its own right. Roughly, why it works. CS2 runs a calendar that is dense and predictable, and that is exactly what makes it the title everything else spins around: audiences, sponsors, the jerseys that are still the single most valuable slice of ad space a brand can plant itself on. Stack betting and prediction markets on top, both still finding their feet. Then the skin economy underneath all of it, which stopped being a novelty years ago.
